Obituary of Virginia Carter Bustle ~ 2008

Virginia Carter Bustle, age 99, born in Gates County on October 10, 2009, died on Friday, 
November 21, 2008 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

She was the daughter of the late James Nathan and Harriet Morris Carter, and is the last 
survivor of nine siblings, J. Otis Carter, Beulah Carter Ward, Eunice Carter Ward, Ernest R. 
Carter, Shirley B. Carter, Sadie Carter Rountree, Mildred Carter Ellis and W. N. “Wince” Carter.

She was the widow of Harold A. Bustle and was predeceased by her daughter, Harriet Bustle Carter.

Mrs. Bustle resided on Main Street in Gatesville until a recent fall.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Robert Byron Carter III of Kill Devil Hills; and her four 
grandchildren, Robert Byron Carter IV of Wilmington, NC, Allen Nathan Carter and Dustin Scott 
Carter of Kill Devil Hills and Virginia Lynn “Ginger” Carter of Wilmington, NC and numerous 
nieces and nephews. 

She was an active member of Gatesville United Methodist Church, Gates County Historical 
Association and in other local civic endeavors in Gates County.

Prior to retirement she was a civil servant with various agencies, including the U.S Census 
Bureau and resided near Washington, D.C.

A funeral will be held at Gatesville United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 24 
with burial to follow in Gatesville Cemetery.

Miller Funeral Home in assisting the family with services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gatesville United Methodist Church, PO Box 323, 
Gatesville, NC 27938 or Gates County Historical Association, PO Box 144, Gatesville, NC 27938.

Following the services on Monday, the family will gather in the Fellowship Hall of Gatesville 
United Methodist Church. 

The family would like to express its gratitude to her faithful caregivers who assisted her 
while she remained at home and while at Guardian Care, particularly Esther Parker, Jane Pruden, 
Alee Riddick and Beulah Forney, and for the loving assistance provided by her niece and caring 
neighbor, Penelope Carter Walker.
